Tashkent takes 162nd place in Mercer’s costliest cities for expatriates

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent took the 162nd place in the ranking of the costliest cities of the world for expatriates, which was published by the US company Mercer.

It is worth to mention that Tashkent shared 162nd place with Ottawa (Canada) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) in the survey. Last year, Uzbekistan was on 180th place in the ranking.

Luanda (Angola) topped the ranking. Hong Kong (2), Zurich (3), Singapore (4), Geneva (5), Shanghai (6), Beijing (7), Seoul (8), Bern (9) and N’Djamena entered to Top-10 the most expensive cities of the world.

Bishkek (207), Windhoek (206) and Karachi are the cheapest cities for living of foreigners, according to the ranking.

Mercer’s authoritative survey is one of the world’s most comprehensive, and is designed to help multinational companies and governments determine compensation allowances for their expatriate employees. New York is used as the base city, and all cities are compared against it. Currency movements are measured against the US dollar.

The survey includes 207 cities across five continents and measures the comparative cost of more than 200 items in each location, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment.
