Tashkent Rescues Bribery Case: Emergency Inspector Arrested

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent have uncovered a bribery case involving an inspector from the local Emergency Situations Department.

The inspector, responsible for fire safety inspections, promised the head of a private clinic assistance in obtaining a positive fire safety report in exchange for a monetary reward. According to the State Security Service, in February the official received 6.5 million soums from the clinic’s owner.

The inspector claimed he could process the necessary documents through colleagues in the Almazar district but failed to fulfill his obligations. When the business owner demanded the return of the money, the inspector was caught in the act.

The operation was conducted jointly by the State Security Service and the prosecutor’s office at the moment the money was handed over.

A criminal case has been opened against the suspect, and a court has placed him in pre-trial detention. Investigators continue to establish all circumstances of the incident.
