Tashkent Nears Completion of Key Stage in Shota Rustaveli Street Reconstruction
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — One of the central phases of the reconstruction of Shota Rustaveli Street in the capital is entering its final stage.
According to the Tashkent City Administration, the first layer of asphalt concrete has been fully laid on the section stretching from Oybek metro station to the “Brotherly Graves” memorial.
“The first layer undergoes natural technical and physical processes — compaction and settling — which ensure the strength and durability of the future road surface. Once these processes are complete, the second layer of asphalt will be applied,” the administration noted.
City officials said that by 10 September, traffic will be allowed to resume on the first layer. The exact date of the section’s full commissioning will be announced separately through official channels.
In parallel, the installation of traffic light systems with a new intelligent control mechanism is nearing completion. Utility services are carrying out the necessary groundwork to prevent future disruptions to road infrastructure.
Contractors will continue working on this segment as part of the broader project.
Reconstruction is also progressing further along the route — from the “Brotherly Graves” memorial toward the “Uzgarish” bridge. Drainage systems are being installed, water channels laid, curbstones replaced, a bicycle lane constructed, and a separate lane designated for public transport.
The city administration called on road users to “treat with understanding the temporary inconveniences caused by the reconstruction.”
