Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Speaking at the international conference "Afghanistan: security and economic development", Special Representative of the British Prime Minister for Afghanistan Nigel Casey praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to organize the Tashkent conference.
According to him, the holding of this important forum is timely and in demand, and indicates that the international community has not relegated Afghanistan to the background. “I am sure that the Tashkent platform will lay a solid foundation for further discussions of all parties involved interested in ensuring a decent life for the Afghans,” Nigel Casey emphasized.
Speaking about the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, Nigel Casey emphasized that the decisive and timely actions of the international community contributed to the prevention of a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe.
In this vein, he stated that in 2021 London doubled its aid to Afghanistan (US$375 million in FY21).
At the same time, the British Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Afghanistan stressed that London is not going to limit itself to humanitarian aid. According to him, Great Britain could contribute to the economic stabilization and sustainable development of Afghanistan.
It should be reminded that special representatives for Afghanistan from more than 20 states of Central and South Asia, Europe, America, the Near and Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region take part in the conference, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the ISMI. In addition, heads and specialists of international and regional organizations such as the UN, EU, FAO, ECO, OIC, SCO are represented at the conference. Among the invited leaders and experts from leading think tanks of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, including from all countries of Central Asia, Russia, the United States, Iran, Pakistan, India and Belgium.
