Tashkent Contributes One-Fifth of Uzbekistan’s GDP, Navoi Leads in Per Capita Income
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — For the period of January–December 2025, the regional structure of Uzbekistan’s economy once again demonstrated a high concentration of gross regional product in the country’s largest industrial and business centers, while maintaining notable disparities between regions.
According to preliminary data from the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, the country’s GDP in current prices amounted to 1,849.7 trillion soums, representing a real growth of 7.7 percent compared to 2024.
The primary contributor to national GDP remains the city of Tashkent, accounting for 19.9 percent of the country’s total economic output. The capital also recorded one of the highest rates of regional GDP growth at 11.3 percent, reaffirming its status as the main economic hub of the republic.
Significant contributions to GDP also came from Tashkent Region, with a 9.7 percent share, and Navoi Region, which accounted for 9.1 percent of the national total.
At the opposite end of the regional spectrum are Syrdarya Region, the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and Jizzakh Region, each contributing less than 3 percent of the country’s GDP. Syrdarya Region had the smallest share at 1.9 percent, while Karakalpakstan and Jizzakh Region each contributed 2.9 percent. Notably, Syrdarya Region led in regional GDP growth, expanding by 10.8 percent over the year, reflecting dynamic development from a relatively small initial base.
In terms of the sectoral composition of regional GDP, economic profiles remain markedly diverse. In the agricultural sector—including farming, forestry, and fisheries—Jizzakh Region had the largest share at 39.5 percent, followed by Surkhandarya Region at 37.4 percent.
Industry continues to dominate in Navoi Region, accounting for 76.0 percent of its regional GDP, as well as in Tashkent Region, where the industrial sector represents 44.2 percent.
The construction sector is most prominent in the capital’s economy, with a 10.7 percent share, and in Khorezm Region at 9.5 percent. The services sector maintains a leading role in Tashkent city, contributing 63.1 percent of its GDP, and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, where services make up 49.5 percent of the regional economy.
In terms of per capita regional GDP, Navoi Region was the clear leader in 2025. In current prices, per capita GDP reached 152.2 million soums, the highest among all regions. Tashkent city ranked second at 116.7 million soums per person, followed by Tashkent Region with 57.5 million soums.
Small businesses continue to play an important role in regional development. Nationwide, the share of small enterprises in GDP formation was 52.2 percent. The highest concentration of gross value added generated by small businesses was recorded in Surkhandarya Region at 76.4 percent, as well as in Namangan and Ferghana Regions at 73.6 percent and 73.0 percent, respectively.
The smallest role of small businesses was observed in Navoi Region, where their share amounted to just 21.1 percent, and in Tashkent city at 51.7 percent, reflecting a higher proportion of large industrial and infrastructure projects.
The construction sector was a key driver of economic growth in 2025, expanding by 14.0 percent nationwide. The fastest growth was seen in Syrdarya Region, where construction volumes increased by 37.9 percent, and in Jizzakh Region, which grew by 19.6 percent.
The services sector expanded by 8.5 percent across the country, and industry grew by 6.8 percent, with Navoi Region maintaining its status as the most industrially developed region. The agricultural sector showed more moderate but stable growth, increasing by 4.4 percent, remaining a key component of the economy in several regions.
