Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 17 February, a meeting of khokimiyat employees with representatives of the European office of the UN Office for Risk and Disaster Reduction was held.
The sides discussed strengthening disaster resilience and the implementation of the framework program in Central Asia 2019-2022 to assist in the development of a disaster resilience plan for the city of Tashkent.
The deputy khokim of the city of Tashkent - the head of the Department for the operation of canals and the improvement of the adjacent territories of the city of Tashkent Mukhtar Mukhitdinov and other responsible employees attended the meeting.
On behalf of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the talks were attended by regional coordinator of the program Abdurakhim Mukhidov, UNDRR technical officer in Uzbekistan Murodjon Ismailov and UNDRR consultant Olga Shashkova.
After mutual greetings, Olga Shashkova presented a report on the Sendai Framework for Action for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SRAP).
This program has identified four priority areas:
1. Understanding disaster risk.
2. Improving the institutional and legal framework for disaster risk management.
3. Investments in risk mitigation measures.
4. Enhancing disaster preparedness.
During the meeting, the parties agreed on further joint steps, in particular, it was decided to create a working group in the khokimiyat to study the SRAP and, together with UNDRR, work out concrete steps to increase the resilience of the city of Tashkent to risks.
