Tanzila Narbayeva takes part in the 66th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 66th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women is being held in New York City at the headquarters of the United Nations from 14 to 25 March.

Representatives of over 180 UN member countries take part in the event in the traditional form and online format.

The main topic of this session was the issues of increasing the participation of women in the promotion of policies and programs aimed at reducing the risks of climate change, the environment and disasters.

Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva took part in the 66th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women with a video message.

The President of the Senate noted that she fully supports the activities of the Commission as a key intergovernmental forum for constructive dialogue and the main coordinating body within the UN on gender issues.

In addition, it was emphasized that the large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the country provide for the empowerment of all women and girls, which is one of the priorities of state policy. The achieved results and progress in the field of gender equality were also noted.

Thus, it was noted that in January of this year, the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 was adopted, in which issues of supporting women and further increasing their activity in society were identified as a key area of state policy.

It was especially emphasized that the National Program for 2022-2026 was approved to continue systematic work to increase the role and participation of women in the reforms being carried out in the country. Its goals are fully consonant with the objectives of the UN Women Strategic Plan for 2022-2025.

In addition, attention is also paid to changes in the environment. In particular, the session participants were informed of the efforts and new initiatives taken by Uzbekistan, headed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to address these problems.

In particular, attention was focused on the work on the widespread use of renewable energy sources, the transition to a "green" economy, the socio-economic development of the Aral Sea region, the development of specific activities, increasing the role of women in their implementation in practice, and supporting women’s entrepreneurship.

Other opinions and proposals on the current topic were also expressed.
