Tanzila Narbayeva meets with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 May, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a meeting with Kaha Imnadze, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, who arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the inaugural session of the Termez Dialogue — a new platform aimed at strengthening ties between Central and South Asia.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on key issues on the regional agenda and discussed prospects for expanding practical cooperation in line with the Centre’s mandate. Particular attention was paid to the promotion of peace, stability, and good-neighborly relations in the region, as well as joint efforts to advance sustainable development.

The discussion also covered the active engagement of international organizations, including UN agencies, in the implementation of initiatives and key documents proposed at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The sides considered the possibility of holding a parallel session of the Central Asian Women Leaders’ Dialogue during the upcoming Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region, scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan in September this year. It was noted that such gatherings help institutionalize the platform and strengthen the role of women in political and social processes.

At the conclusion of the talks, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing cooperation and working jointly to implement regional initiatives.
