Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 November this year, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairwoman of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Director General of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) Alan McClay, who arrived in our country to participate in the "round table" dedicated to the activities of this organization in Uzbekistan.
During the conversation, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the National Commission for Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva noted that in recent years, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reforms have been implemented in all areas, there have been significant changes in labor relations, various sectors economy, in the cotton and textile industries, large-scale systematic work has been carried out in the field.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that all the necessary conditions are being created for effective investment activities and doing business in Uzbekistan, most importantly, all opportunities are being created for organizing decent work based on the recommendations of international organizations.
It was noted that after the boycott of Uzbek cotton was lifted as a result of wide-ranging reforms to combat human trafficking and forced labor, international brands and large companies are eager to cooperate with local enterprises. The issues of attracting branded enterprises through the widespread introduction of international standards in the activities of enterprises in the cotton and textile industry are becoming relevant.
The importance of the use by Uzbekistan in the production of the textile industry and the sale of products, as a result of achievements in this area, of sustainable cotton raw materials, including cotton grown in accordance with the BCI standards system, was emphasized.
During the dialogue, the parties discussed the implementation of international standards and the development of cooperation in the textile industry through the implementation of new projects in these processes.
