Tanzila Narbayeva and Ban Ki-moon discuss expansion of GGGI’s “Green” initiatives in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 May, a meeting was held at the Senate between the Chairwoman of the Upper House of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, and Ban Ki-moon, Chair of the Assembly of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
During the talks, the parties discussed expanding GGGI’s activities in Uzbekistan and strengthening the institute’s role in implementing major projects aimed at the country’s “green” transformation, as well as supporting Uzbekistan’s commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement.
Special attention was given to the international approach to addressing environmental challenges, recent reforms focused on the restoration and sustainable development of the Aral Sea region, the creation of forested areas, and efforts under the nationwide program “Yashil Makon” (Green Space).
Prospects for deepening parliamentary expertise and training personnel in the field of green economy were also considered.
Following the meeting, agreements were reached to expand cooperation on promoting national climate initiatives internationally, improving the regulatory framework, and exchanging experience in combating environmental pollution and climate change.
