Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 May 2022, a meeting of Central Asia and the Russian Federation was held in Ashgabat on the role of women in socio-political, socio-economic development.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Mejlis Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbaev, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Talant Mamytov, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali and Chairman of the Senate Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.
The forum participants discussed issues of strengthening constructive ties between women, developing projects and programs on gender equality and expanding women’s participation in the public and political life of the state, as well as ways to further develop partnerships and strengthen dialogue between parliamentarians from the countries of Central Asia and Russia.
In her speech, the head of the upper house of the country’s parliament Tanzila Narbayeva emphasized that the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is the initiator of large-scale reforms and transformations in all spheres of the country’s life, including those aimed at comprehensive support for women and girls. Thanks to this, issues of ensuring gender equality and supporting women and girls have been elevated to the rank of state policy in Uzbekistan. Specific measures are being taken to increase the role of women in the socio-political life of the country and their participation in the decision-making process.
Thus, a Republican Commission was created, headed by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. Uzbekistan has acceded to all major international treaties providing for the legal, social and economic protection of women from any form of discrimination and harassment. In February this year, our country successfully reviewed its sixth national report on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
These issues are also reflected in the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026, one of the key goals of which is dedicated to supporting women and their participation in the public life of the country. The Upper House of the Parliament of Uzbekistan approved the Strategy for achieving gender equality until 2030.
The participants of the event supported the initiatives and proposals, as well as the final Declaration of the Dialogue of Women of the States of Central Asia and Russia. This document reflects common approaches on key issues to further strengthen our cooperation, including in the field of supporting women and ensuring gender equality.
The implementation of the recommendations of today’s meeting of the Women’s Dialogue will lay a solid foundation for further strengthening the multilateral partnership in the format of Central Asia - Russia.
