Syrdarya to Build “Sultonhovuz” Reservoir with a Capacity of 100 Million m³

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — To improve water supply for agricultural lands in the Bayaut District, construction of the “Sultonhovuz” reservoir with a capacity of 100 million cubic meters is planned. This was announced during a session of the Syrdarya Regional Kengash of People’s Deputies, attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The construction of the reservoir will enable the cultivation of double crops on 110,000 hectares in the Bayaut, Gulistan, Saykhunabad, Syrdarya, and Mirzaabad districts. To maintain the reclamation condition of the lands, a phased program to clean 16,000 kilometers of drainage canals has been set.

It was also noted that about 200,000 hectares of land are affected by severe or moderate salinization. The President instructed the implementation of a pilot project to rehabilitate the salinized areas, followed by the development of a three-year program to improve the reclamation condition of the lands.

Responsible authorities were tasked with transforming Syrdarya Region into a model area for water resource accounting and rational usage.
