Sweden and Uzbekistan Explore Sustainable Mining Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A business forum titled “Sweden and Uzbekistan: Prospects for Cooperation in Sustainable Mining” was held in Stockholm. The event was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Sweden in collaboration with the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Mining and Geology of Uzbekistan, JSC NGMK, JSC AGMK, JSC Uzbekugol, and leading Swedish companies and industry organizations such as Epiroc, Volvo CE, Sandvik, SKF, EOL Vent, LKAB, Ericsson, Brokk, SIDA, and Swemin.

The forum focused on Uzbekistan’s economic reforms aimed at modernizing the mining sector, increasing high-value production, and creating favorable conditions for foreign investment.

B2B negotiations between business representatives of the two countries addressed technology transfer, industrial cooperation, and the prospects for joint projects. Special attention was given to collaboration in education and research.

Discussions were held with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swedish Mining Association (Svemin) on launching joint educational programs with universities and implementing innovative projects with the support of the Swedish government’s innovation agency, Vinnova.
