State Customs Committee Transfers Nearly 300 Historical Artifacts to the Center for Islamic Civilization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, a member of the Board of Trustees supporting the Center for Islamic Civilization, has transferred 267 valuable historical items — ancient coins and ornamental elements — to the Center’s collection.

These artifacts were confiscated while being illegally smuggled out of the country. The violation was intercepted by officers of the “Sariosiyo” customs post under the Surkhandarya Regional Customs Administration.

An expert analysis confirmed that 39 silver coin pendants were minted in the 19th century in the territory of the Bukhara Emirate. The remaining 228 pieces of jewelry date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The court declared these items to be state property.

A ceremonial handover of the artifacts to the Center for Islamic Civilization was held at the initiative of the Chairman of the Customs Committee, Akmaljon Mavlonov. The event was also attended by the Center’s Director, Firdavs Abdukholiqov.

During the ceremony, participants emphasized the crucial role of customs authorities in protecting the country’s historical and cultural heritage. It was noted that combating the illegal export of unique and rare objects of national significance remains a top priority for the customs service and demands a high level of responsibility from each of its officers.
