State awards presented to Uzbek athletes and coaches

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 August, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with athletes and coaches who participated in the XXXII Summer Olympic Games.

The event was also attended by the heads of the National Olympic Committee and sports federations, parents of athletes, representatives of government and public organizations.

The head of our state congratulated everyone on the great success of the national team of Uzbekistan.

As you know, the recent Olympic Games were held from 23 July to 8 August in the city of Tokyo, Japan. 71 representatives of our country took part in competitions in 17 kinds of sports, which is the highest indicator in the history of national sports.

The necessary conditions were created for athletes and coaches both before and during the competition. They won 3 gold and 2 bronze medals, ranking 32nd among more than 200 countries, second among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States and first in Central Asia. Our athletes have also broken 3 Olympic records.

The first gold medal was brought to our team by the 19-year-old taekwondo player Ulugbek Rashidov, who became the youngest Olympic champion in our country.

Weightlifter Akbar Djuraev set an Olympic record, lifting a total of 430 kilograms, and won the second gold medal.

The talented boxer Bakhodir Jalolov fulfilled his promise to the President and won the Olympic Games in the heavyweight category.

Bronze medals were won by promising representatives of the national martial arts school - judoka Davlat Bobonov and freestyle wrestler Behzod Abdurakhmanov.

The President thanked the parents and coaches of these athletes.

“Such great accomplishments are only capable of such a generation, in whose veins the power and energy of our great ancestors pulsates, such as Jaloliddin Manguberdi, Amir Temur, Pakhlavon Mahmud, Zakhiriddin Babur, such a generation, which in all respects is worthy of these great names,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The progressive development of women’s sports in our country was noted with satisfaction. This is evidenced by the participation of 28 of our athletes in the Tokyo Olympics, which became a record in the history of independent Uzbekistan.

The head of our state especially noted the merits of our world famous gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, who performed 8 times in a row at the Olympic Games in artistic gymnastics. This result, unique for world sports, is included in the Guinness Book of Records. Therefore, her participation is recognized as one of the important events of the Tokyo Olympics.

- We are rightfully proud of such legendary athletes. Her courage and will to win serve as a kind of school of high achievements and glory for young athletes, the President said.

For love and devotion to the Motherland, dedication in sports, unyielding will and stamina, Oksana Chusovitina was awarded the title "Honored Trainer of the Republic of Uzbekistan".

The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to create a sports school for Oksana Chusovitina and Bakhodir Jalolov.

The head of our state also mentioned 18-year-old Zainab Daiibekova, the first participant in the Olympic saber fencing competition in the history of our country, as well as 19-year-old Kumushkhon Fayzullaeva, the youngest participant in weightlifting competitions.

- As you can see, courageous athletes of Uzbekistan boldly enter the international arena. We all sincerely admire them. At the same time, I want to tell our guys: if you don’t work hard, the girls will soon bypass you, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

As you know, in our country there is a reward of US$200,000 for the winners, US$100,000 for the silver and US$50,000 for the bronze medalists of the Olympic Games.

The head of state emphasized the huge role of coaches in preparing athletes for competitions held in intense competition. In this regard, the coaches of the Olympic champions will receive US$40,000 as a reward, and the coaches of the bronze medalists – US$20,000 each.

Winning a ticket to the Olympics and participating in it is also a success, for the achievement of which an athlete goes through a difficult process of many years of training, devotes himself to this business. Taking this into account, a decision was made to award the athletes participating in the Olympics with a cash prize of 5 thousand dollars.

The event also identified the preparation tasks for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

It was instructed, with the involvement of an international sports management company, to audit each link in the sports sector and take measures based on its results to further improve the management system of physical culture and sports institutions and sports federations.

The importance of winning Olympic licenses in team sports, not limited to single combats, was pointed out.

Particular attention is paid to improving the quality of sports education, the introduction of modern methods and practices, the selection and training of talented athletes.

“It is necessary to bring from abroad not legionnaires, but leading specialists and methods of training athletes,” the President said.

Instructed to completely revise the quotas for admission to Olympic reserve colleges and improve their educational activities.

There are 329 sports schools in the country. More than 13 thousand coaches work in them, more than 328 thousand young people are engaged in more than 30 kinds of sports. However, not all of these schools are effective. Some of them have not raised a single champion of the country.

In this regard, it is necessary to introduce a state order system for each sports school, paying special attention to the training of boys and girls with sports categories and titles.

The low level of national championships and the lack of competition at them were noted. Teams from the regions are underrepresented at the championships in team sports. Federations are content with holding championships with only 4-5 teams.

In this regard, instructions were given to improve the structure of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the system of organizing competitions in team sports.

The importance of improving the physical, medical and psychological training and pharmacological support of athletes, as well as the use of scientific approaches and traditional medicine along with advanced foreign experience, was emphasized. The task was set to equip the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Sports Medicine with modern equipment, to create departments of sports psychology and dietetics.

Measures have been determined to stimulate the winners and prize-winners of the youth and youth world championships, as well as their coaches.

The need to fully digitalize the system for selecting young talents and holding championships, and developing a sports platform for the Olympic reserve was emphasized.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 12 August 2021, a group of athletes and coaches who achieved high results at the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo were awarded honorary titles, they were awarded medals and orders.
