Specialists discuss decreasing of greenhouse emissions
Representatives of key ministries and departments, working in economy, finance, hydrometeorology, environmental protection, agriculture and water management, energy, utilities, oil and gas industry as well as academia.
The participants familiarized with the results of the Bonn conference on climate change and targeted figures for decreasing greenhouse emissions and their relations with intended nationally determined contributions (INDC).
The participants also took part in the discussion of the preparations for the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will be held Paris in December 2015.
Latest scientific evidence suggests that the problem of climate change can seriously affect the development of humanity, calling into question the modern way of life. During the existence of the UNFCCC, substantial work on the collection of climate change data was done and a number of international agreements on the prevention of climate change were adopted.
Within the Convention, all countries of the world have united with one common purpose - to keep the temperature rise of the surface layer of the planet’s atmosphere at 2 C. The main achievement was the adoption of the UNFCCC Kyoto Protocol - a document that for the first time ordered the developed countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
However, the duration of the first commitment period has expired, and the world’s greenhouse gas emissions still grow.
During the planned Paris Conference it is expected that the new global agreement, which will be the next step towards addressing climate change, will be signed.
