Special Representatives of Uzbek President meets with Japanese envoy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 November 2020, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Yoshinori Fujiyama.

During the conversation, the parties discussed issues related to the settlement of the conflict in Afghanistan, as well as prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the Afghan direction.

The Japanese side expressed its readiness to continue to actively contribute to the establishment of long-term and sustainable peace in Afghanistan, the restoration of its socio-economic infrastructure in the interests of the entire Afghan people.

The parties paid special attention to the implementation of such major projects in Afghanistan as the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul railway line with access to Pakistani ports, as well as the Surkhan-Puli-Khumri power transmission line.

The Japanese Ambassador also showed great interest in the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, voiced during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, to create a permanent committee on Afghanistan within this organization.
