Space activity law discussed at Senate
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the latest plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Law "On Space Activity" was reviewed.
The Law outlines the main concepts and principles of space activity, its goals, and the primary directions of state policy in the field of space activity.
The Law defines the powers of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Digital Technologies, its subordinate Agency for Space Research and Technologies, as well as the Ministry of Defense in space-related matters.
The Law also addresses issues related to scientific research in outer space, types of space systems, including Earth remote sensing, space monitoring, state space monitoring, satellite communication systems, high-precision satellite navigation systems, and the use of space rocket complexes (spaceports), labeling, leasing of space objects, disposal of space objects and technical means, security of space infrastructure and activities, funding for space activities, and international cooperation.
Special attention is given in the Law to the use of space technologies for the exploration and utilization of outer space and Earth for achieving goals in scientific, socio-economic, environmental, defense, security, and other fields. It also addresses monitoring the impact of space activities on the environment, natural resources, and public health.
The Law stipulates that the development and implementation of strategic directions and state programs in the space sector, as well as the identification of economic sector violations through the processing of space imagery, will be one of the key elements of state policy.
Senators noted that with the adoption of the Law, the space sector will be regulated, responsible bodies, their powers, and duties will be clearly defined, and legal guarantees for conducting space activities will be established, including the prevention of potential risks, environmental protection, and national defense and security.
Additionally, this will allow the country to successfully conduct activities in various areas, including land relations, geology, seismic safety, transportation, agriculture, forestry, water management, and road infrastructure.
Following the discussions, the Law was approved by the senators.
