South Korea’s Independence Day marked in Tashkent
It was organized at the support of the Embassy of South Korea in Uzbekistan and Association of Korean citizens. It was attended by Korean diasport in Uzbekistan and MP Victor Pak.
South Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan Lee Wook-heon said that South Korea was occupied by foreign countries several times, but Japanese occupation was the most destructive in the history of the country.
“We were on the verge of losing our rich history, language, traditions and identity of the people. But thanks to compatriots, who fought for liberation in America, in China, in Russia, thanks to their sacrifice, the country achieved liberty. Currently, here are descendants of those people, who participated in the liberation of our country. In no case we should not forget their sacrifice,” he said.
The envoy also briefed the participants on achievements of South Korea, including in economy. He said that one of key tasks is to reunite South and North Korea. He said that two Koreas should stop confrontation.
The celebration included demonstration of videos, made from old photos.
