Soul and Pop Star John Legend to Perform in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — American musician John Legend, one of the most renowned performers in soul, R&B, and pop, will perform on June 8 at Registan Square in Samarkand, the Uzbekistan Culture and Arts Development Foundation said.

The concert will mark Legend’s first performance in Central Asia. The fund noted that his music, imbued with themes of love and peace, will resonate particularly harmoniously against the backdrop of Samarkand’s ancient architectural monuments.

According to the fund, the Registan performance will not only be a musical event but also a cultural symbol of dialogue between history and contemporary global culture.

John Legend is known as a pianist, singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. Over his career, he has won 13 Grammy Awards, as well as one Oscar, one Emmy, and one Tony Award. His first Grammy was awarded in 2004 for the album Get Lifted.

In 2015, Legend, together with rapper Common, wrote the song Glory for the film Selma, which won both a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Original Song.

He has collaborated with global stars such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, The Black Eyed Peas, Andre 3000, Ariana Grande, Janet Jackson, and The Roots. In 2016, he played the role of musician and jazz club owner Keith in the film La La Land, which won six Oscars and numerous other awards.

John Legend’s performance in Samarkand promises to be one of the region’s major cultural events of the year.
