Construction of solar photoelectric station in Samarkand region, central Uzbekistan, was started in the second half of 2014.
The project is aimed at using solar energy for long-term perspective and improving electricity supply in Uzbekistan, creating new jobs.
The feasibility study of the project was developed by Uztyajneftegazhimproyekt and Teploelektro-proyekt. The project with preliminary cost of US$275 million is financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan.
The paper said that Samarkand regional administration allocated 404 hectares of land for the station – 254 hectares in Pastdargom district and 150 hectares in Nurabad district.
Currently, the earth works are underway at the sight. About 100 special equipments are working at the construction site. The railways are repaired.
Pravda Vostoka said that the solar station will be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2016. It added that 70% of population in Samarkand region are living in rural areas and need for electricity is high during winter time.
The construction of solar station will improve electricity supply to population and businesses, as well as social objects. It will allow to save annually over 49 million cubic meters of natural gas.
