Sodiq Safoyev holds meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore Jessica Tan Sun Neo

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 October 2020, an online meeting was held between the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodiq Safoyev with the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore Jessica Tan Sun Neo.

During the conversation, a substantive exchange of views took place on the further intensification of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Singapore. In particular, in the political, inter-parliamentary, trade and economic, financial and educational spheres.

Jessica Tan Sun Neo especially noted that in recent years there has been a significant intensification of bilateral relations. This applies to both government and business circles of the two countries. This trend is a favorable precondition for further deepening cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

It was emphasized that the government of Singapore, like other countries of the world, is making every possible effort to combat the spread of Covid-19. After all, the pandemic had a negative impact on the preservation and creation of jobs and social support for the population.

In this context, the Singaporean side emphasized that Uzbekistan, which has 70% of the population under the age of 30, has significant advantages over the aging population of Singapore. Since in this country, 6.2% of the population or 216 thousand people are over 65 years old.

The emphasis is on the fact that Singapore, as a young country, is in the making. In this context, Uzbekistan for him is a vivid example of the historical experience of building statehood and carrying out modern large-scale reforms. At the same time, programs of privatization, demonopolization and economic diversification are of particular interest.

In turn, the interlocutor expressed her readiness to share the experience of Singapore. Especially on the eradication of corruption, the formation of a transparent digital government, whose activities are based on close cooperation with the civil society.

The parties also considered the prospects for further enhancing interaction in education and the financial sector. The issues of the development of the stock and securities market, information and communication technologies, the eradication of corruption, the fight against international fundamentalism and extremism were also discussed.
