Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) presented the results of the development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan over the past five years.
During the three-day visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the socio-economic development of the entire region is analyzed.
CERR experts presented the main changes in the socio-economic development of Karakalpakstan that took place during the years of active reforms in 2017-2021.
The Republic of Karakalpakstan has large natural, mineral and agricultural resources, labor potential, road, transport and engineering and communication networks, industrial infrastructure, convenient geographical location and large territory.
The region’s gross domestic product (GRP) for five years increased by 32% and amounted to 26.3 trillion soums, industrial production increased from 6.8 trillion soums to 16.6 trillion soums. soums (30% growth)
Agricultural production increased by 20%, from 5.0 trillion soums in 2017 to 12.3 trillion soums in 2021.
The number of operating enterprises in the region increased by 59% from 19.2 thousand in 2017 to 27.4 thousand in 2021.
In the field of infrastructure development for 2017-2021. 2278 km of water supply networks were laid and repaired.
In terms of social protection of the population and the creation of decent living conditions, it is of great importance to solve such problems as providing the population with decent housing. In particular, over the past five years, 4,390 thousand sq.m. have been put into operation in the region. housing, 15.2 thousand places were created in preschool institutions, 38.3 thousand places in schools.
During the same period, about 127 thousand jobs were created.
As shown by the Business Activity Index (IDA), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms in January of this year. in the regional context, the Republic of Karakalpakstan showed the highest growth.
The adoption of the Presidential Decree “On measures for the integrated socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2020-2023” from 11 November 2020 gave a new impetus to the promotion of the most important sectors of the economy in accordance with the “growth points” of cities and regions.
To unite efforts in the development of the Aral Sea region, each district of Karakalpakstan is assigned to one of the regions. So, the Muynak region is assigned to Tashkent region, and the capital of Karakalpakstan, Nukus, to Tashkent.
During his current trip to the region, the President explained the reason and significance of this measure.
“Many people only say that the situation in the Aral Sea region is bad. But not everyone saw it with their own eyes. Therefore, today I sent leaders from all over the republic here so that they can breathe the air of the Aral Sea, see the conditions and give a fair assessment. We will allocate impressive funds for the development of Karakalpakstan,” the head of state said.
Arriving in Muynak, the President got acquainted with the air harbor. The new terminal is capable of serving 50 passengers per hour. The runway and aprons have been repaired.
“Over the past five years, we have learned a lot, believed in what previously seemed incredible. On my first visit, I said that culture would begin from Muynak. This is exactly what is happening. An example is this airport. Now air traffic will be organized along the route Tashkent-Muynak-Nukus,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev examined the creative work and talked with residents.
“Special attention to Karakalpakstan, the use of large forces and resources in recent years are yielding results. People believed in the correctness of our path. Now we are setting new goals. All leaders are in Karakalpakstan. This is the first time in history. They came with their own resources, teams, they are developing specific projects. We need to restore the former glory of Takhtakupir,” the President said.
