Smoke occurred at Tashkent International Airport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 11 September, smoke occurred in the departure terminal of international airlines at Tashkent airport. Passengers and employees were urgently evacuated. The relevant services of the Tashkent airport promptly arrived at the scene - duty crews of the Airport Fire and Rescue Service (SPASOP), the Electric Lighting Flight Support Service (ESTOP) and the Aviation Security Service (ASS).

According to preliminary data, the cause was a short circuit of the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) at the transformer substation on the ground floor. In order to eliminate the causes of the short circuit, as well as for the safety of the employees of the services working at the scene, it was decided to de-energize the airport terminal for some time.

“Smoke began in the basement around 10.30 am. Thanks to the immediate reaction of airport staff and the help of fire brigades from the city, the smoke and fire were quickly eliminated. There was no smoke in the hall, only an unpleasant smell. At 10.40 the airport had to be temporarily de-energized. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Now employees of the relevant airport services are working on the spot and eliminating the causes of the closure,” commented Umid Khamraev, director of Uzbekistan Airports Handling LLC.

At the moment, three flights KS-128 to Almaty, HY-721 to Nur-Sultan and SU-1975 to Moscow are delayed. Airport services are making every effort to reopen the air harbor as soon as possible. By this hour, most of the terminal is connected to electricity.

The terminal of arrival of international airlines of the airport "Tashkent" and the terminal of domestic airlines operate as normal.
