SmartED Project Launched in Uzbekistan: Teachers to Be Trained According to International Standards

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has launched a new phase of teacher training and professional development as part of the large-scale educational project SmartED.

On 10 July, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UNESCO Representation in the country.

The project is implemented with financial support from the Islamic Development Bank, the Islamic Solidarity Fund, and the Global Partnership for Education. Its key goal is the comprehensive development of teachers' professional potential in line with modern requirements and international standards.

In cooperation with UNESCO, the project plans to implement several priority directions:

One of the central focuses will be the improvement of the system for training future educators. Special attention will be given to introducing modern teaching methodologies, developing relevant curricula, and enhancing the practice-oriented component of education.

Significant emphasis will be placed on developing teachers’ digital competencies. The program includes training on the effective use of innovative technologies and digital tools in the educational process, which will, in turn, increase interactivity and accessibility.

A separate priority will be the introduction of an inclusive approach to the education system, including organizing adapted learning formats for children with special educational needs. This will create more equal access to quality education for all categories of students.

Additionally, approaches to professional certification and motivation of teachers will be revised. The development of modern mechanisms for qualification assessment and incentive systems is expected to encourage continuous professional growth among teachers and improve the overall quality of education.

The signing of the memorandum marked the beginning of a new phase of reforms in Uzbekistan’s education sector aimed at creating a sustainable, modern, and inclusive system for training teaching personnel.
