Small Hydropower Plant “Zarchob-3” Connected to Uzbekistan’s Power Grid
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The small hydropower plant “Zarchob-3” has been successfully connected to the power grid and has begun generating electricity, reports Dongfang Electric Corporation.
The facility is located on the Tupalang River in the Sariasiya district of Surkhandarya region and is capable of producing 70 million kWh of clean electricity annually.
This amount is sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 23,000 households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 60,000 tons per year. Additionally, the plant will save around 19 million cubic meters of natural gas annually.
The 16 MW “Zarchob-3” small hydropower plant is part of JSC “Uzbekhydroenergo’s” large-scale program for the rational use of water resources and the expansion of renewable energy sources.
Construction of the plant was initiated following the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Surkhandarya region on November 17, 2023, and was completed in less than one and a half years — during 2024–2025.
The project primarily utilized the company’s own resources and technical capabilities of “Uzbekhydroenergo.”
