Six projects for US$197.5m implemented in Angren SIZ

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Implementation of six projects for US$197.5 million started at the Angren special zone. The volume of foreign direct investments makes up US$147.4 million, head of the direction of Angren SIZ Sohib Saifnazaro said in an article, published at the Pravda Vostoka newspaper.

He said that local and foreign businesses prepared and submitted for consideration about ten investment applications with preliminary sum of US$123, which shows high interest in the zone.

Sohib Saifnazaro said the projects will be placed in existing and unused capacities, located in the zone. The participants of Angren SIZ will receive tax and custom preferences from three to seven years based on the volume of investments, minimal size of which makes up US$300,000.

He underlined that the Uzbek-Korean joint venture Uz-Shindong Silicon is constructing a plant on production of silicon with the capacity of 5,000 tonnes a year. The project cost is US$10 million. The venture is founded by the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan and South Korea’s Shindong Enercom Inc.

Almalyk Mining and Metallurgy Combine is also building a plant on production of copper pipes with the capacity of 8,000 tonnes a year. The products will be supplied to internal and external markets. The company already placed orders on production of technologic equipment and constructing premises to future plant.

Bulgaria’s Prista Oil is creating a joint venture on production of synthetic oils from used technical oils. The projects on construction of street lightening lamps and sanitary ceramics are also underway at the zone.

Angren Shakar is constructing a plant on production of sugar. It will produce 1,000 tonnes of sugar a day. The plant will be commissioned in the third quarter of 2014, he said.
