Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Citizen of the Russian Federation Maxim Lymar incorrectly interpreted the rules for the import and use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the law of the country, as Maxim Lymar explained, quadrocopters are heavier than 250 grams, subject to mandatory registration. However, the traveler’s technique weighs only 249 grams (this is confirmed by the characteristics printed by the manufacturer on the drone itself), and therefore it should not have been subject to this rule.
The Uzaviatsia (Uzbek Aviation) agency informs that despite the fact that the weight of the UAV does not exceed 250 grams, the device is equipped with photo-video equipment, which excludes it from a number of permitted UAVs, which do not require permission to import and use it in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the Regulations on the procedure for the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles in civil and state aviation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 31 August 2016 No. 287, a toy model is understood as a UAV weighing no more than 250 grams, but without the function of autonomous flight control and navigation, not equipped with photo and video equipment.
In connection with the increase in demand from foreign tourists and representatives of foreign media and in order to develop inbound tourism, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 322 from 26 November 2014 was amended in 2018, which envisages a simplified procedure for issuing permits for temporary import and use territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan UAV for the preparation of photo and video materials about the tourism potential of the republic, including for foreign creative groups, at the request of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the development of tourism, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National Agency "Uzbekkino".
A simplified procedure for issuing such permits provides for the official application of a foreign citizen to one of the above ministries or departments or through the electronic platform of the Uzaviatsia Agency to obtain a permit for the temporary import and use of UAVs in the territory of Uzbekistan.
