Sign language interpreters to be mandatorily present during citizen receptions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – In accordance with the Presidential resolution “On Additional Measures to Create a Favorable and Unimpeded Environment for People with Disabilities”, a deputy head responsible for creating a favorable and unimpeded environment for people with disabilities will be appointed in ministries and agencies, their territorial subdivisions and organizations within their system by 1 September 2024.

Starting from 1 January  2025, ministries and agencies, organizations within their system, as well as enterprises with more than a 50 percent state share, will be required to ensure the presence of a sign language interpreter during citizen receptions and outreach events.

One employee responsible for handling citizen appeals in ministries and agencies, organizations within their system, and state-owned enterprises will undergo training in sign language interpretation.

Starting from 1 October 2024, in urban passenger transport, persons with disabilities of Group I and one accompanying person will receive free services.

Some 50 percent of the expenses for adapting personal vehicles for Group I persons with disabilities (up to 30 times the base calculation value) will be reimbursed.

The Social Inspection has been designated as the authorized body responsible for monitoring the creation of a favorable environment and unimpeded movement for people with disabilities.
