Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the progress of major projects aimed at modernizing Uzbekistan’s transport infrastructure.
During the discussion, plans were presented for the construction of a new Tashkent–Samarkand highway with a total length of 282 kilometers. The project предусматривает soil reinforcement works along 140 kilometers of the route, as well as the construction of 12 interchanges, 91 bridges, and 16 overpasses. The road is planned as a Category Ia highway with six lanes, cement concrete pavement with a width of 3.75 meters per lane, and a design speed of 150 kilometers per hour. Construction is expected to be completed within five years.
In addition, the construction of an alternative highway along the Tashkent–Angren–Kamchik Pass route, with a length of 171 kilometers, is under consideration. The project includes the construction of 33 kilometers of tunnels and a number of major engineering structures. The head of state was also briefed on potential financing sources and ongoing negotiations with foreign investors.
Special attention in road design is being given to the use of modern engineering solutions, the introduction of intelligent management and monitoring systems, and ensuring road safety. The presentation also included updates on the implementation of the Tashkent–Charvak and Urgench–Khiva road construction projects.
The presentation also covered plans for the construction of a new international airport in Tashkent. At the first stage, a passenger terminal with an area of 208,400 square meters and two runways, each 4 kilometers long, are planned. The airport infrastructure is designed to handle 20 million passengers per year, up to 30 takeoffs and landings per hour, and parking space for 169 aircraft. Officials also reported on ongoing design and survey work and the subsequent stages of project implementation.
The President instructed responsible officials to ensure thorough technical and economic planning for all projects, carry out construction in accordance with modern standards, and guarantee the long-term and safe operation of the country’s transport infrastructure.
