Shavkat Mirziyoyev Meets with Rosatom CEO to Discuss Nuclear Power Plant Project in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 January, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Alexey Likhachyov, General Director of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom,” to discuss practical aspects of implementing the integrated nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan and expanding cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The parties noted with satisfaction that the foundation of the first small-capacity reactor was laid in October of the previous year, and design work for the plant is ongoing.

Special attention was given to the training of qualified personnel. In December 2025, a modern engineering school in nuclear energy and technologies was launched at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI.”

The discussions also covered prospects for applying nuclear technologies in agriculture and medicine, the development of scientific research in the sector, and implementation of social projects aimed at enhancing the efficient use of nuclear technologies across various fields.
