Shavkat Mirziyoyev Emphasizes the Role of Mahallas in Improving Residents’ Lives

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a working visit to Syrdarya region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Buston mahalla in the city of Gulistan to review the ongoing community development initiatives. This year, the mahalla was comprehensively upgraded: all apartment buildings were renovated, and a new mahalla center building was commissioned.

The President held a dialogue with local leaders, veterans, and youth, highlighting that the results of reforms aimed at addressing grassroots issues and improving living conditions are particularly visible in Syrdarya region. “The mahalla is the face of society. All changes in the country are first reflected here. We have created a system where solutions to many issues that were previously considered serious are now found directly within the mahalla itself. We will continue to strengthen this institution,” the President noted.

To improve heating services, a modern boiler house costing 18 billion soums was constructed, and 3.3 kilometers of heating networks were installed. Twenty-three individual heating points were set up in apartment buildings, creating a closed-loop heating system. Internal heating systems in 20 multi-storey buildings, totaling 800 apartments, were restored, and the local kindergarten now has centralized heating and hot water supply. The new boiler house is expected to save 144,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity and 627,000 cubic meters of natural gas annually.

The President instructed authorities to continue work on creating comfortable living conditions, applying modern technologies in construction and operation of boiler houses, and attracting qualified specialists. He also spoke with community members, including the senior generation, about the changes in mahalla life and the region.

Following the Presidential decree on developing Syrdarya region’s infrastructure, a targeted list of 215 multi-storey buildings was compiled. The program includes roof and façade repairs, heating system upgrades, modernization of engineering communications, and overall landscaping and improvement of the surrounding areas.
