Share of small businesses in Uzbekistan’s GDP hits 43.2%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Share of small businesses in the gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan grew from 42.6% in the first half of 2012 to 43.2% in January-June 2013, the publication of the Ministry of Economy and the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.

The publication said that share of small business in industry made up 22.9% in the first half of 2013 against 21.8% in the same period of 2012.

At the same time, the share of small businesses in exports rose from 12.4% to 19.2% in the reporting period and in employment – from 75.1% to 75.5%.

The publication underlined that some 15,800 new small businesses have been crated in the first half of 2013.

Largest number of small business was created in industry (28.2% from total number), trade and catering (26.8%), agriculture and forestry (15.1%) and construction (9.6%).

Total number of operating small businesses grew by 4.6% year-on-year in the reporting period.

In the reporting period, some 46 state assets worth 23.9 billion soums were realized to small businesses. The businesses also rented 19,100 empty premises in the reporting period.

The commercial banks increased allocation of loans to small businesses by 1.3 times to 3.7 trillion soums in the reporting period. The banks also issued 775.2 billion soums of micro loans (1.4 times up) and US$59.8 million of loans due to credit lines of international financial institutions.
