Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 January 2021, the omicron strain was detected in the laboratory of the Center for Advanced Technologies (CTC) under the Ministry of Innovative Development.
A new strain of coronavirus "omicron" was found in a foreign citizen who arrived in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan from Dubai. This fact, as well as measures to counter the proliferation of omicron, were discussed at a meeting of the Republican Special Commission.
Commenting, Deputy Minister of Innovative Development Shahlo Turdikulova noted: “Given the rapid spread of omicron around the world, its appearance in Uzbekistan was a matter of time. The good news is that the Uzbek-Chinese vaccine, the most popular in our country, demonstrates excellent results based on the conclusions of the studies carried out against the new strain. As the head of the Center for Advanced Technologies, which is actively involved in the trials of ZF-UZ-VAC2001 and in the study of viral mutations, I can say that the booster dose of the drug protects against omicron by almost 100%. This is also confirmed by our colleagues from the PRC. "
The meeting of the Special Commission also discussed the issue of urgent acceleration of the rate of vaccination of the population, including with booster doses of ZF-UZ-VAC2001.
