Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission Sergey Glazyev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation Botirjon Asadov discussed issues of interaction between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Republic of Uzbekistan as an observer state at the EAEU. The meeting took place on February 3 at the EEC headquarters.
Sergei Glazyev noted that Uzbekistan’s obtaining observer status with the EAEU will allow the country to move to a new, more advanced level of interaction with the Union. In his opinion, the appointment by Uzbekistan of its representative to the EEC would contribute to more active joint work.
“Uzbekistan is a strategic partner for the EAEU. As you know, our countries have historically established a developed system of industrial cooperation, and today we see great opportunities for increasing the volume of mutual industrial, trade and investment cooperation,” said Sergei Glazyev.
Botirjon Asadov, for his part, noted the constructive nature of the dialogue with the EAEU and declared his readiness to make the most of the possibilities of observer status with the EAEU. He stressed that from how intensively the parties interact, both Uzbekistan and the states of the Union will benefit.
In addition, the ambassador focused on the need to jointly develop the transit and logistics potential in the region with an emphasis on the creation of modern transport arteries, junctions and hubs.
The parties also discussed the prospects for concluding a Memorandum of Cooperation between the EAEU and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a plan for its implementation. Working in this format would create additional infrastructure for the full-scale implementation of the observer status.
The Uzbek delegation was invited to consider the possibility of interaction with the EAEU Business Council, as well as to join the work of the advisory committees under the EAEU Board. In addition, Sergei Glazyev invited partners to systematically participate in events under the EAEU, including the Eurasian Economic Forum.
The focus was also on the issues of effective use of the opportunities of the EAEU single market.
