Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Law "On Courts" was discussed at a plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
It was noted that the presence of a strong judiciary in the state is the key to sustainable development of civil society and democracy, which contributes to the full provision of human rights and freedoms. This is an important factor in ensuring sustainable economic development and investment attractiveness of the country.
The current Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Courts", adopted in 1993, was developed in the first years of independence, it does not fully reflect the profound changes in the judicial system, and therefore does not meet modern requirements.
Therefore, in order to ensure the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 24 July 2020 "On additional measures to further improve the activities of the courts and increase the efficiency of justice", the Law "On Courts" was developed in a new edition.
The new version of the Law "On Courts" improves the basic principles of justice and the procedure for revising judicial acts, enhances the status of judges, guarantees their independence, brings the requirements for candidates for the office of a judge and elected persons into line with international standards, revises the disciplinary responsibility of judges, clarifies the grounds and the procedure for the suspension and termination of the powers of judges, and social protection of judges is also ensured.
The adoption of the Law will contribute to the improvement in the Republic of Uzbekistan of the procedure for the activity of the judicial system and guarantees of the independence of judges, to increase the authority of the profession of a judge, to fulfill the tasks specified in paragraph 11 of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 24 July 2020 No. and increasing the efficiency of justice ”.
The law was approved by the senators.
