Senate to Convene for Its Eighth Plenary Session

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 June 2025, a meeting of the Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held under the chairmanship of Senate Speaker Tanzila Narbayeva. During the meeting, a resolution was adopted to convene the eighth plenary session of the Senate, which will take place on June 25 in the format of a videoconference.

The agenda includes a wide range of pressing issues related to the country’s socio-political, economic, and legal affairs, as well as international cooperation and parliamentary oversight.

Particular attention will be paid to the Senate's and local Councils’ immediate responsibilities in the context of the reform priorities outlined by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In this regard, senators will analyze the situation in the regions and discuss solutions to urgent problems facing the population.

Among the key draft laws is a document aimed at expanding the guaranteed rights of the opposition — a significant step toward the development of political pluralism, transparency, and a culture of parliamentary debate.

Amendments strengthening enforcement guarantees of judicial decisions are also on the agenda, along with changes to legislation in the fields of economics, agriculture, environmental protection, and investment policy.

In the sphere of international cooperation, the Senate will consider the ratification of the Agreement on the Establishment of a Civil Protection Mechanism of the Organization of Turkic States, as well as Uzbekistan's accession to the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage.

A separate agenda item will include the hearing of the Central Bank’s report for 2024, as well as discussions of parliamentary inquiries concerning the improvement of the investment climate, compliance with labor legislation, and the enhancement of the system for recovering and disbursing alimony.

The outcomes of the session are expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening the legal framework for ongoing reforms and to the development of civil society institutions.
