Senate studies unpleasant smell in Sergeli district

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Residents of Sergeli district have been plagued by an unpleasant smell for a long time. In this regard, the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on agrarian, water management and ecology conducted preliminary studies.

The study revealed that a strong unpleasant odor comes from wastewater at the inlet of the first pipeline of the Salar wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater after mechanical treatment enters the biological treatment facility through an open flume at a distance of 500 meters, at this moment fetid odors spread from the biological treatment plant in the direction of the wind. As a result, offensive odors have a detrimental effect on the living conditions of the inhabitants of this area.

Wastewater from 533 enterprises is discharged into the Salar wastewater treatment plant. Among them there are potentially dangerous enterprises and creating unpleasant odors. There are 18 of them.

Among them are 5 tanneries, 6 textile factories and others. The State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, in agreement with the Commissioner under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of business entities, has begun work on the study at these 18 production enterprises. With regard to enterprises where, according to the results of the study, faulty local treatment facilities will be identified, measures will be taken to disconnect them from the sewer network, until they eliminate the shortcomings.

A draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan is being prepared, envisaging the reconstruction of the local treatment facilities of these enterprises, as well as the transfer of 5 enterprises of the leather industry outside the territory of the city of Tashkent.

Based on the results of the study, detailed information will be provided.
