Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On the first day of the visit to the United States, a delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva held a series of meetings and negotiations with officials, representatives of public and US business circles in order to discuss promising areas of multifaceted cooperation between our countries.
In particular, during the meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Civil Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya, the parties discussed the legal and institutional measures taken in the country to end forced labor, prevent and combat human trafficking, reform the agricultural sector, and interact in this direction. with international structures and institutions of civil society.
The Under Secretary of State praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to eradicate forced labor in the country, noting that Uzbekistan has made incredible progress in a relatively short period. Uzra Zeya emphasized that the United States is ready to continue to support the positive dynamics of transformations in the country. In her opinion, the progress achieved will lead to strengthening the competitiveness of Uzbekistan in the world textile market.
Welcoming the upgrade of Uzbekistan’s position in the State Department’s report on human trafficking from a "watch list" to Tier 2, the Under Secretary expressed her hope that these efforts will continue.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on the implementation of new projects to further improve labor relations in Uzbekistan.
