Senate of Uzbekistan holds talks with IPU Secretary General
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a working meeting with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungong.
During the talks, the parties discussed organizational aspects of preparations for the 150th anniversary IPU Assembly, which will be hosted in Uzbekistan, as well as prospects for expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation in democratic reforms.
A key topic of discussion was the historical significance of the upcoming Assembly, themed "The Parliamentary Movement for Social Development and Justice." It was noted that this initiative aligns with the large-scale reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan under the leadership of the President. The participants emphasized that the successful experience of Uzbekistan’s parliament could serve as a valuable model for other nations.
IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong highly praised Uzbekistan's contributions to the Union’s activities and expressed gratitude for the long-standing fruitful partnership.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed confidence that hosting the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent would be a landmark event for the global parliamentary community and contribute to strengthening the role of legislative institutions in addressing pressing global challenges.
