Senate introduces changes to Constitution of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved a law on introduction of changes and amendments to Constitution of Uzbekistan in connection with reforms in judicial system.

The law introduces changes and amendments to the articles of 80, 81, 83, 93, 107, 110, 111, 112 of the Constitution of Uzbekistan.

In line with amendments, Supreme Court of Uzbekistan is created on the base of Supreme Economic Court and Supreme Court. New Supreme Court will be the highest judicial body in the sphere of civil, criminal, administrative and economic legal proceedings.

The amendments also create economic and administrative courts in judicial system.

The law envisages creation of Higher Judicial Council, which will appoints judges of the court with agreement of the Uzbek President. The Council will be independent judicial body.

Senators also passed the law “On Higher Judicial Council of Uzbekistan” and law on introduction of amendments to law “On court”, Civil Procedural and Economic Procedural Code of Uzbekistan, etc.

The amendments set terms for judges. Age of judges of Supreme Court cannot be higher than 70 and other courts – 65 years.
