Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 October 2020, an online meeting was held between the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev with the director of the Oxford Center for Islamic Research (UK) Farhan Nizami.
During the conversation, issues of cooperation with the Oxford Center in the field of science, education, and healthcare were discussed. In particular, the prospects for the development of cooperation within the framework of the activities of the International Research Center of Imam Maturidi were considered.
Farhan Nizami welcomed the process of political and economic modernization of Uzbekistan. The interlocutor highly appreciated the humanistic views and policies of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the large-scale work carried out in the country to study and preserve the heritage of the great thinkers of the Islamic world, to actively promote the ideas of enlightened Islam in the international arena. The significant role of Uzbekistan as a regional center for scientific research and deeper study of the Islamic heritage was emphasized. They also highly appreciated the actions to unite the efforts of the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan in this direction.
During the meeting, issues of cooperation within the framework of the International Academic Advisory Committee (IACC) of the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies were also discussed.
