Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 November 2022, during the thirty-fifth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, senators considered laws on the ratification of important bilateral treaties between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The discussion was also attended by the heads of relevant ministries and departments, as well as khokimiyats of Andijan, Fergana and Namangan regions, deputies of local Kengashes of people’s deputies and experts.

The senators stressed that thanks to the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a completely new atmosphere of political trust has been created in the Central Asian region. A breakthrough has been achieved in solving many problematic issues that in the past created obstacles to the mutual rapprochement of the countries of the region in the name of achieving common interests.

During the meeting, the senators discussed in detail the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the ratification of the Treaty between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on certain sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border” and “On the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic on the joint management of water resources of the Andijan (Kempirabad) reservoirs".

The senators stressed that the settlement of disputes related to the state border plays an important role in ensuring the national security of the country. Since this will prevent border conflicts and effectively counteract illegal trade.

In turn, the joint use of the Andijan (Kempirabad) reservoir creates reliable guarantees for the uninterrupted supply of water to thousands of farms.

In addition, it was noted that the adoption of these documents will serve the rational and mutually beneficial use of transboundary water resources and will bring bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

As a result of a detailed discussion, the Senate adopted resolutions on the approval of these laws.
