Senate Approves Law Supporting Agricultural Sector and Food Security

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, lawmakers reviewed and approved the Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” aimed at improving the legal and regulatory framework in the field of agriculture.

During the discussions, it was noted that Uzbekistan has undertaken large-scale efforts in recent years to modernize its agricultural sector, introduce advanced agro-technologies, strengthen food security, and expand the country’s export potential. These developments necessitate corresponding changes in the system of public administration and enhanced legal protection for actors within the agro-industrial sector.

As part of the new law, editorial amendments were introduced to the Code of Administrative Responsibility as well as to the laws “On Seed Production” and “On the Recognition of Rights to Illegally Seized Land Plots and Structures Built on Them,” aligning their provisions with current legislation. These adjustments are in part due to the transfer of the Inspection for the Control of the Agro-Industrial Complex under the authority of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Additionally, amendments to the Law “On State Duties” now exempt the Agency for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex under the Ministry of Agriculture from paying state duties on applications, complaints, and claims submitted to the courts to protect its own interests, as well as those of entities engaged in the production and processing of fruit and vegetable products, including greenhouse enterprises.

Senators emphasized that the adoption of this legislative act will contribute to more effective support for the agricultural sector, strengthen the country’s food security, and help build a more resilient system of executive governance in the agrarian sphere.

The law was unanimously approved.
