Seminar “Initiatives on improving water management” takes place in Tashkent
CAREC was established by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as European Union and UNDP.
Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan is a national partner of the CAREC.
During the event, the participants received information about projects, realized in the region. For example, USAID finances project “Water, education and cooperation in Central Asia, which is aimed at improving system of training of water management specialists.
Another project is “Water cooperation in Central Asia”, which is financed by the European Union. The project is aimed at strengthening regional water partnership, strengthening cooperation in ecology and sustainable development in Central Asia.
EU also finances a project “Improving awareness and partnership for sustainable water and economic development in Uzbekistan. Component 3”. The project is aimed at attracting attention and raising awareness of population on rational use and protection of environment in the condition of climate change.
USAID also participates in the project “Investigation of the impact of climate change on the quality of surface waters in the Amu Darya basin”, which is directed at assessing climate change on the quality of surface waters and submit to interested side to develop possible adaptive measures.
It was noted that the projects include measures on providing technical support and equipping pilot objects, purchasing lab equipment and materials.
