SCO summit to be held on 23-24 June 2016 – Mezentsev

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A session of the Council of the heads of states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Tashkent on 23-24 June 2016, former SCO Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev told the Russian President Vladimir Putin on 14 January.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin said: “I am certain our Uzbekistani friends and colleagues will do everything to hold it at the highest possible level.”

Dmitry Mezentsev added: “Of course, Mr President. The Tashkent summit is also to confirm the start of the accession to the organisation by India and Pakistan, which required a great deal of work on the part of those countries.”

In July 2015, it was reported that the SCO summit will be held in the first half of September. In summer 2015, Uzbekistan has taken over the rotating SCO Presidency.

As reported earlier, Rashid Alimov from Tajikistan became a Secretary-General of the SCO from January 2016.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation creation of which was proclaimed on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai (China) by the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
