Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Central Asian countries make a significant contribution to the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. This point of view was expressed by the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Ming at the High-Level International Conference on the topic: "Regional cooperation of the countries of Central Asia in the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy", taking place on 3-4 March in Tashkent.
In his video message, the Chinese diplomat noted that over more than a decade, Central Asia has made significant progress in constructively solving major regional problems, especially terrorism and extremism.
As Zhang Ming noted, during its existence, the SCO has taken a number of impressive measures to develop security cooperation between member states and increase the counter-terrorism potential of the Organization.
According to him, the Summit of the Heads of the SCO Member States, held in September 2021, made it possible to achieve significant progress in improving the mechanism for responding to new security challenges and threats faced by the SCO countries.
According to the SCO Secretary General, the efforts of the UN play a central and coordinating role in maintaining international peace and security, stimulating global development, promoting and protecting human rights.
Zhang Ming expressed his conviction that "the fight against terrorism and extremism needs the joint efforts of all countries, as well as broad international cooperation."
In his video message, the Chinese diplomat stressed that almost half of the world’s youth live in the SCO region - more than 800 million young people aged 15 to 25. According to him, the SCO member states are taking appropriate measures to provide them with a healthier and more positive choice for further growth and development.
As an example, Zhang Ming pointed to the development of the “Agreement on cooperation in the field of work with youth between the authorized bodies of the SCO member states”, which provides the younger generation with great opportunities to study abroad.
The conference, which received the universal support of international partners, became the practical implementation of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, put forward at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, and made a significant contribution to consolidating the efforts of the countries of the region and the world community in the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy ( UNGCCC) in Central Asia.
