Samarkand Access Restricted During UNESCO General Conference from October 30 to November 14

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Due to the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, access roads to Samarkand will be temporarily closed from 30 October to 14 November, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan announced.

Alternative routes will be available for transit traffic. Drivers will receive flyers with QR codes linking to interactive detour maps. Authorities recommend that residents and visitors avoid traveling to Samarkand during this period unless necessary.

The 43rd UNESCO General Conference will be held outside Paris for the first time since 1985, hosted at the Silk Road Samarkand tourist complex.

The General Conference, convened every two years, sets UNESCO’s strategic priorities, budget, and main program directions. During the session, members of the Executive Board are elected, and the organization’s Director-General is appointed every four years.
