Russian source downplays Uzbekistan’s refusal to attend CSTO ministerial meeting

Uzbekistan will not take part in the ministerial meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization [CSTO] in Yerevan on Thursday [16 April]; however, this does not mean that it is quitting this organization, a Russian diplomatic source told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Uzbekistan will not take part in tomorrow’s session because of a disagreement on a number of procedural questions. However, this does not mean that Uzbekistan is quitting the CSTO," the agency’s source stressed.
"At this stage, the Russian side does not view Uzbekistan’s non-participation in the session, which is to take place on Thursday, as a tragedy. The session is a working one and it is not expected that some kind of fateful decisions will be adopted at it," the source said.
"The CSTO summit planned for 14 June is a different matter. Very important decisions that have been agreed in advance will be adopted at it," the collocutor noted.
The CSTO members are: Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
