Russia, Uzbekistan Discuss EPR Cooperation on Waste

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Representatives of the Russian Environmental Operator (REO) held a working meeting with counterparts from Uzbekistan to discuss international cooperation in waste management and extended producer responsibility (EPR), the REO press service reported.

The meeting took place during the fifth session of the Russian-Uzbek Working Group established to implement the agreement between Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the State Committee of Uzbekistan for Nature Protection on cooperation in environmental protection.

REO experts presented proposals for technology exchange and potential joint investment projects. Participants also discussed the implementation of extended producer responsibility mechanisms in Russia and possible formats for bilateral cooperation in this area.

The Uzbek side expressed interest in exchanging experience and confirmed its readiness to expand cooperation.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain working contacts and hold additional expert-level discussions at upcoming events in Russia and Uzbekistan.
